One of my favourite pastimes is trying new things whether it will be a new tech product or app, restaurants, going to a foreign place, and trying new food and drink products. I am constantly hunting for a new favourite snack or grocery store product. I will begin to start compiling my favourite food products of the moment on here to share.
Here are some of my favourite items from the past few months during this unprecedented lockdown time. Overwhelmingly, this list contains mostly vegan and vegetarian friendly snacks and pantry items. But there is also something for the fish lovers as well!
Seachips, Salmon Skin Crisps
At the dinner table, I fight for the fish skin. Fish skin chips are pretty ingrained in Asian culture. So I am pretty hyped that fish skin chips are becoming more mainstream in Western culture. Seachips is the first of its kind in the UK.
Other Foods, Crunchy Shiitake Mushroom Chips
Mushrooms are kind of one of those controversial foods like coriander where you either hate or love them. I adore mushrooms. Shiitake mushrooms remind me of childhood because it’s in loads of Chinese cooking (mmmmm lap cheong fan). These chips are the right amount of salty and nutty, woody flavour. Only drawback is that I am addicted to these so they are kind of putting a dent into my bank account.
Properchips, Sour Cream & Chive Lentil Chips
I tried these for the first time a few weeks ago. I am familiar with the Propercorn brand from being a fan of their popcorn. Each time I have had a bag of these, I have finished the whole bag in one sitting. So I guess I can say that their Properchips are as good as their popcorn.
M&S, Truffle Ketchup
This was released last autumn. But it’s the first time I have noticed it in M&S. The black truffle taste is pretty pungent and sharp but doesn’t overpower the ketchup flavour. Pretty hooked on it and my household finished this bottle in 3 days.
Squeaky Bean, Chicken-style Nuggets
My vice is McNuggets. I am an omnivore but I love trying out plant-based meat and dairy alternatives. Out of the vegan/vegetarian alternative “chicken” nuggets I have tried, this is as close as it gets.
Applewood, Smoky Vegan Cheese
Another dairy-free alternative to something that I also enjoy the real deal version of as well. They have nailed it with the taste and texture of the real one. You could have fooled me and told me that this was the dairy version.
