Restaurants
Portugal is so blessed with land and sea in their cuisine and plentiful vegetation that makes beautiful wines. There is something for all palettes and tastes in Lisbon and the rest of Portugal (I’ll outline my favourites in the rest of Portugal in separate posts).
If you are a foodie that cares about the quality and deliciousness of your food, avoid defaulting to going to Time Out Lisboa market but we walked through there out of curiosity to check it out. I can confidently confirm there is certainly better food you can get around Lisbon.
Some of my favourite restaurants that I visited in Lisbon:
Prado
Small plates for sharing made for sharing and great wine list. We had a very memorable meal here. The desserts were innovative – we had “mushroom ice cream with caramel & pearl barley” and “Requeijão fried milk with toasted rice crème anglaise”.
Plano
Tasting menus with local ingredients and Portuguese influence. Great wine list, get the wine pairing here. Reasonably priced for a tasting menu restaurant (<€100 per person). Loved being served port wine that’s older than me haha!
Officina Di Duque
Good casual Portuguese cooking in Chiado. Seems to be a popular spot, be prepared to queue. Noticed that it was quite popular amongst other tourists as well
O Frade
A gem in Belem. Small plates for sharing, fantastic wine list. Known for their We had an amazing skin contact wine here. Must get dishes are the octopus with red peppers, razor clams, and the duck rice.
100 Manerias
The restaurant is created by chef Ljubomir Stanisic who comes from Bosnia. The extensive tasting menu has both Bosnian and Portuguese influence. Coming for a meal here is an experience and felt like we were taking a journey with the food. Their cocktails and wine list are exceptional. Well deserved 1 Michelin star. I think I will do a separate post sharing more about my experience at 100 Manerias.
A Valenciana
Fantastic piri piri chicken cooked on an open flame in a restaurant that has been around since the early 1900s. Their piri piri chicken is served with chips and rice. Very good value spot, bustling with locals.
Portuguese cuisine you must try in Lisbon
Pateis de nata
The best pateis places in Lisbon are Mantergaria (various locations around Lisbon) and Pateis de Belem (in Belem. In my opinon, best pateis I had in all of Portugal here)
Ginjinha
Cherry liqueur. Accompanies pateis well. A good spot for ginjinha is A Ginjinha.
Port wine
Fortified wine produced in the Douro Valley (we also went to Porto and the Douro Valley, I’ll detail this more in another post!)
Portuguese wines in general
Try wines from different regions! We had wines from various regions around Portugal including Duoro, Lisbon, Algarve, and more!
Bars
Toca Da Raposa
Vibey cocktail bar with innovative cocktails that are based on foraging.
LX Factory
Red Frog
Featured in World’s 50 Best Bars. Speakeasy vibes. Reservations required.
Linha D’Agua
Ideal setting next to the fountain in Jardim Amália Rodrigues. Perfect for a day drink
Casa Independente
Trendy spot that turns from a bar into a nightclub. Feels like you’re in someone’s home with antique style decor
